Firefly History
Firefly Drone Shows began in 2017 in Kyle Dorosz’s basement with a small team and just 25 drones, driven by the goal of manufacturing our own aircraft and building the technology needed to perform safe, large scale drone light shows. By developing our hardware, software, and flight systems entirely in house, Firefly quickly established a strong technical foundation and became the second company ever licensed by the FAA to operate drone shows, helping pave the way for the industry. The brand grew by executing everything from small community events to major productions, while building a massive audience through social media that now reaches millions of viewers. Today, Firefly produces over 300 shows each year and also sells and leases its drone show systems to customers looking to start their own drone show companies, evolving from a basement project into one of the most experienced and influential drone show operators in the world.
Company Timeline
2017
Firefly becomes the 2nd company to be FAA certified to fly drone light shows.
2018
Firefly flies it's first 100 drone show for Ford Motor Company.
2019
Firefly grows it's fleet to 300 drones and performs a 250 drone show for the World Scout Jamboree in front of 80,000 people.
2020
Firefly leases office and warehouse space to build a larger fleet. We double in size and cross 1 million followers on tik tok.
2021
2021 was a turning point for Firefly Drone Shows. We completed over 100 drone shows in a single year and flew our first 500 drone show, marking the move into large scale productions and higher-volume operations.
2022
n 2022, Firefly Drone Shows released our Gen2 drone, making drone shows brighter, more reliable, and easier to execute at scale. We completed our first theme park installation with Holiday World, flying 45 nights in a row.
2023
In 2023, Firefly Drone Shows surpassed 200 drone shows in a single year and expanded our team to support continued growth and operations at scale.
2024
In 2024, Firefly Drone Shows launched Firefly Drone Systems, expanding beyond shows to lease and sell our complete drone show system to partners and operators.
2025
Firefly Drone Shows crossed 300 shows in a single year, expanded our office and warehouse, and grew to over 60 full time employees spanning development, piloting, animation, and production.
